HCl; NaNO2 in water; acetone diazonium salt prepd. was added to equimolar HgCl2 in HCl with stirring; after pptn. the mixt. was stirred for 1 h and filtered; the intermediate was treated with Cu powder in acetone at 0°C, stirred for 1 h and allowed to stand overnight; product was filtered, residue extracted with xylene, the extract filtered and the filtrate cooled;
