lithium aluminium tetrahydride; aluminium trichloride in octane byproducts: LiCl; under N2 or Ar; mixt. of γ-AlH3, excess LiAlH4, octane and olefin heated to 100-110°C for 1 h; additional olefin added at 90-100°C for 2 h; filtered; solvent and excess olefin removed in vac. at 60-70°C (1Torr); AlCl3 added; heated at 80°C; filtered; elem. anal.;
