in benzene byproducts: NaBr; sodium trimethylsilylamide in benzene is added dropwise to a soln. of BBr3 in petroleum ether (ice-cooling), stirred for 2 h at 20°C;; filtn., solvent removal at 40°C/10 Torr, distn(. 55-60°C/0.5 Torr), elem. anal.; residue extracted with petroleum ether; evapn. (20 °C/10 Torr) and fractd. distn. (90-170 °C, 0.1 Torr) yields the tribromo-compound, recrystn.;
