iodine in tetrahydrofuran; n-heptane; dichloromethane (inert gas); I2 in THF (0.5 equiv) added to Na(1,2-dimethoxyethane)C5H5in THF at -78°C by syringe, warmed to room temp. for 25 min, stirred with heptane, stirred with chilled aq. Na2S2O3, upper layer sepd.,dried (Na2SO4), decanted, cooled,; added to refluxing Co2(CO)8 soln. in CH2Cl2 for 4 h, refluxed for 36 h;solvent removed (vac.), left overnight (vac.), taken up in Et2O, chromd. (Al2O3, pentane, Et2O), concd., crystd. at 0°C, recrystd. (Et2O/pentane); elem. anal.;
