in neat (no solvent) Sb and I2C6Cl4 heated in sealed tube to 250°C for 4 h; extd. with boiling DMF, concd., washed (acetone), dried (vac.) at room temp. for 1 h; elem. anal.;

in neat (no solvent) excess of Te powder and o-I2C6Cl4 were heated in a sealed tube at 300°C; Te2(C6Cl4)2 sepd. on cooling, boiling DMF removed all the TeI4, residue was extd. with a further aliquots of DMF, ext. was concd. leaving crystals of Te2(C6Cl4)2 on cooling;

in neat (no solvent) byproducts: HgI2; heating at 260°C for 24 h;; sublimation of HgI2; warming under vac. with a free flame; fractional sublimation; elem.anal.;;
