in tetrahydrofuran; methanol; diethyl ether To a stirred, cold (-78°C) soln. of Re(CO)5Br in THF is added an ether soln. of 2,2'-dilithiobiphenyl (N2). The suspension is slowly warmed to 25°C, cooled again and Br2 in MeOH is added.; Chromy. on silica gel, collecting of the yellow band, and removal of the solvent gives 9-fluorenone, recrystn. (EtOH). The product is analyzed by (1)H-NMR, (13)C-NMR, IR and melting point.;
