tert.-butyl lithium in Petroleum ether; pentane byproducts: hexa-t-butyldigermane, 1,1,1,2,2-penta-t-butyldigermane; a 15percent soln. of t-BuLi in pentane was added dropwise under anhyd. conditions to GeCl4 (2:1 molar ratio) in petroleum ether with a rate to maintain a slight reflux of the mixt., mixt. was stirred at room temp. for 2 d; soln. was filtered, washed, solvents were distilled off, residue distilled in vacuo; elem. anal. for t-Bu2GeCl2, t-BuGeCl3 was identified by its b. p., other minor products - by their mass spectra;
