in carbon disulfide N2 atmosphere; dropwise addn. of soln. of S8Cl2 to soln. of Zn complex (0°C), alloe to warm to 20°C (over 1 h), pptn. of (tmeda)ZnCl2; filtration off of (tmeda)ZnCl2, addn. of P4O10 to filtrate, addn. of CHCl3 (pptn. of S12), cooling (-35°C), filtration, addn. of CHCl3 (-35°C; crystn. for several days);

in dichloromethane ZnCl2 was refluxed with ligand in CH2Cl2 for 2 h under inert atm.;

in neat (no solvent, solid phase) Zn compd. was heated in air to 800°C;
